July 20 - Wessex Rose and Blechley Park

We stayed most of the day in Fenny Stratford.  There really wasn't much in the town except a small church.

The up side is that Blechley Park is a 3 minute train ride from town…so we all walked to the train station for the short ride.  Blechley Park was the headquarters of the World War II code breakers, including Alan Turing.  The work they performed was the subject of a fairly recent film called Imitation Game.

Many of the huts used by the code breakers were staged with furnishings from the war era and the overall experience was excellent and informative. They had a functioning "bombe" which was an electro-magnetic machine used for code breaking (and was featured in the recent movie "Imitation Games").

They also had one of the Enigma machines used by the Nazi's to sent coded messages.

The headquarters of the work was in the Blechley Park mansion situated on a pretty lake.

We were able to tour the ground floor and the building was beautiful.  The original family was obviously very wealthy.

The library and a couple of other rooms were staged as they were used during the war.

Mid-afternoon we set out again along the canal.  Peaceful.

We moored in Milton Keyes.
